I never imagined meeting someone excited to see me in the emergency room.

I entered the room with my standard greeting: “Hello, I’m Dr. McNeil. How can I help you today?” The elderly black woman came in because she was experiencing chest pain. She removed her hand from her chest, looked me in the eyes and smiled with joy. With that look, the ambient sounds of the ER faded, and she said, “I am so proud of you!” Read more here
